The FIDMarseille is pleased to screen two films by Pierre Creton, Tuesday, September 2008 at 8 p.m. on its premises.

PAF 3 €. Reservations are recommended, drinks are included.

LA VIE APRES LA MORT (France, 2003, 23’), presented in the Vidéothèque Bis at FID 2004

L'HEURE DU BERGER (France, 2003, 39’), Grand Prix of the French Competition and winner of the GNCR Prize at FID 2008.

One of Pierre Creton’s first films is entitled "La vie après la mort". We see him there, in the house of a much older friend, Jean Lambert, who appears with him. We see them read together out loud from different books. We see them delighted to listen to old vinyl records. We see them waiting for something, the death of Jean Lambert. 2008, seven years after the disappearance of his friend, Pierre Creton still lives in this house. With a sewing machine borrowed from Lautréamont, he brings together bygone images with those of today. A work of mourning? Perhaps, but above a reception of a day-to-day mythical person, guided by the reading of Pavese’s Il mestiere di vivere: Diario 1935–1950 [The Business of Living]: “A certain kind of daily life (set hours, the same persons, forms, and places of devotion) leads to supernatural thoughts.”
A spider polishes off an insect, the filmmaker improvises as a hairdresser; we hear the hear broadcast a meditation on the brain and perceptions; we witness strange double exposures (completely new in Creton’s oeuvre!); we are offered a number in duo with Vincent Barré, etc. If his early films, Secteur 545 and Paysage imposé (FID 2004 and 2006) have familiarized us with an unexotic but broadened rurality, but in the dimensions of a great Romanticism, here we have the arrival of another aspect of the Romantic tradition: black humor, turmoil, and the fantastic "L’Heure du berger", first genre film then in Pierre Creton’s filmography.

–Jean-Pierre Rehm, 2008
