STORY (Germany, 2003, 86’) by Dana Ranga, Special Mention awarded by the First Film and Sound Jury, in International Competition at FID 2003.

An astronaut and a poet, Story Musgrave, was one of the aces of the first exploration of space. Today he recounts his adventure in front of a camera, in a cabin or in a forest, while a blue light examines his bald head and magnificent photos of Space or of the Earth appear. From the ground to the stars, from one globe to another–Story’s head or the planets he describes–, it is both a scientific documentary of the kind not much practiced any more, although it corresponds to a fundamental possibility of film, and the crazy chronicle of a lunacy still alive, the one that can make you a spaceman, as Story says.

Screening introduced by Nicolas Féodoroff
Bibliothèque Départementale – 20, rue Mirès 13002 Marseille.

Free-of-charge.

FIDMarseille, in partnership with  Archives et Bibliothèque départementales Gaston Deferre is screening Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 6 p.m. Soirée Marseille Invisible – La galerie de la mer as part of the photographic exhibition Puits Z

LA GALERIE DE LA MER by Philippe Van Cutsem (Belgium, 2007, 60’), presented in the Vidéothèque Bis at FIDMarseille 2007

When I met Hendrik Sturm, I immediately wanted to make a film with him. His work, which works out and tests paths illuminating urban logics as well as unbearable aspects of the city, seems to me eminently filmic. I therefore decided to accompany him on one of his promenades. My choice concentrates on the one that follows, on the surface, the rectilinear route of the Galerie de la Mer, connecting underground the mines of Gardanne to the autonomous harbor of Marseille. For the occasion, I invited the film writer, Patrick Leboutte, and the philosopher Jean-Paul Curnier to join us.  This filmed trip testifies to some of the many facets of Marseille and its inhabitants.

Presented by the director, Philippe Van Cutsem and Christine Breton, National Heritage Curator  and Hendrik Strurm

Archives et Bibliothèque départementales Gaston Defferre
18, rue Mirès 13002 Marseille.
Free-of-charge.

DREYER POUR MEMOIRE

France, 2004, 59’

“There exists a place in Roubaix, la Cie de l’Oiseau Mouch, that welcomes and trains handicapped workers and actors. I want to declare and identify them as such. Friends. Who work. Thirty-five hours a week. This company housed in a place called ‘the Garage,” stages shows with these actors. And also receives them too. These actors are the protagonists of the film. For us, it is a way of imagining a trace in images and sounds of a workshop begun one year earlier.”

Olivier Derousseau

Films selected in Marseille:

2007 - ACCOSTER – French Competition
2005 - DREYER POUR MEMOIRE – French Competition
2002 - BRUIT DE FOND, UNE PLACE SUR LA TERRE – Georges de Beauregard National Prize
