VideoFID

As part of its VidéoFID evenings, FIDMarseille is pleased to invite the public to a screening of the film HISTOIRE RACONTÉE PAR JEAN DOUGNAC by Noëlle Pujol, winner of the GNCR prize, in French Competition, screened in its world premiere at FID 2010, on September 28, 2010 at 8 p.m. The screening will be held on the FID premises, with the filmmaker present.
Entrance fee 3 €. Reservations are recommended and drinks are included.

"In the closed space of a bedroom, an elderly man, lying on a bed, has been waiting for me for thirty years. He holds a secret and is burning to reveal it. I place my digital camera at the foot of the bed. The frame of my image transforms the room into a theatrical stage. It is not a question of an interview, but rather a long, polyphonic monologue, filmed in a static shot. In two languages, French and Occitan, Jean Dougnac recounts the strange story of my parents from whom I was separated at birth. He tells me about my mother Edmonde, about the mystery of her handicap that he never knew how to resolve. He discloses the secret of my birth. The images are in his voice. Nothing is linear in his narrative: the exhibition of a familial tragedy looms, handicapped mother and father, poverty, abandonment and welfare court. But it is a background from which other film and political stories detach themselves, other lives in movement explored with words. The end of his narrative is a suspense, a happy end, with an open end as in a fable, with a character on her way."

This is how Noëlle Pujol describes her film, and we could hardly do better. Except to say that all that resonates with Eustache, with his form of ethno-poetry, a genre too infrequently practiced. We could also add that this film, parts of which have already been shown (under the title VAD at FID 2003), was produced from 2001 to 2009. The time of memory is long, and patience is required, but this filmmaker has already demonstrated her talent in this area.
