A BATALHA DE TABATÔ
THE BATTLE OF TABATÔ

João VIANA

  Portugal, 2013, 83’, B&W

In Guinea-Bissau a young woman looks for her father after she returns home. He is on his own path, lugging a suitcase around with him. Following the trail of these individuals, two expectations are progressively confirmed. The suitcase will soon spill out its contents. Music will certainly revive all this. The father’s silence and peculiar behavior are intensified by memories of war and conflict he has seen. Following Gomès’ Tabu, Portuguese colonial memory is at the heart of the film, albeit never expressing itself.
